Please note that Intuit rolls these updates out in “waves”. That is, some users will see these changes right away, others won’t see them until later. It can be frustrating if you hear about a change but don’t see it in your copy, but rest assured you will see it, hopefully in a few weeks. It would be nice if Intuit had some way of displaying the “version” of the release (this one is “V77”, for example) so that we could tell what release we are working with. I hate it when I talk to a QBO client about how to find a feature and discover that they don’t have it yet!
Copy Description in Bank Transactions
In the “classic” version of
This is an option that you will need to turn on using the gear icon in the banking transactions window. Here are the options from before the change:
With the new version you will find a new option, Copy Description.
When this is enabled, the “bank description” will now be copied to the transaction memo field.
Another nice improvement is being able to edit the payee when you are doing a batch update of selected transactions. Here is the screen that you had in the older release:
Here is the new option. This should help speed the process.
QuickBooks Online Navigation Changes
There are a few tweaks of the user interface to improve navigation and visibility. These are pretty minor, actually.
Looking at the top bar, here is what you saw “before”:
And here is “after”:
The word “Help” was added to the right to make it easier to understand, and the gear icon is moved to the left of the company name? I’m not sure why the gear was moved, there are other places in the program where there is a gear icon and it usually is on the right.
The icons at the top of the screen have been changed a bit, too. Here is what you saw “before”:
And here is “after”:
The icons are slightly larger (and one changed), and the color has changed to make it more consistent with the left navigation menu.
Money Bar
The money bar displays a subset of your information, usually, but it isn’t clear what date range is being used. This will now be displayed so that it is clear. Here is what you saw “before”:
And here is what you see “after”:
Expense List Attachment
You can now enable an attachment column in the expense list which helps you see how many attachments the expense transaction has, as well as access them easily. You have to enable this using the gear icon in the Expense Transactions list. This is a very nice addition.
Here is the older version, note which options you have when clicking the gear on the right.
With the new update you see that there is an “attachments” column that you can add.
If you click on the number in the attachments column you will see a list of the attachments.
Enable Online Payment on Recurring Invoices
A new option has been added to the New Recurring Invoice transaction for letting your customers pay online.
Here is the transaction window from the older version.
As you can see in the new version, the Online payment option has been added, and a number of the existing options have been moved about. The new arrangement is more compact, which is helpful, but the tab order of the fields has been changed, which sometimes is annoying (but not too bad as this isn’t a window that you would use daily).
Clicking on that link should take you to a new website, but in my initial test that window took a very long time for this page to open. Be patient.
Date Filter in Transactions, etc.
Intuit announced that there was a new option for the date filter for sales and expense transactions, “All Dates”. I’m confused, because as you can see in this screen shot of the older version, that option is already there.
So I’m confused a bit, it seems that this already existed. Or I’m missing their point?
Miscellaneous Other Changes
- This is a nice little change – pressing “Esc” will now close transaction forms like invoices, etc.
- sub-customers are visible on billable cards and the receive payment form.
- You can now batch print more than 50 invoices at a time.
- Voided invoices are now properly labeled on the customer detail page and sales transactions pages.
- Editing a customer’s address now reflects on transactions and recurring transactions.
