Lloyds Bank Plans to Slash 990 More Finance Jobs

Lloyds Banking Group announced recently that it plans to cut nearly 1,000 more finance jobs and close three offices as part of a previously announced strategic review, according to The Independent.

The news source reports the 990 finance positions are being slashed and the offices closed in Romford, Newcastle upon Tyne and Scunthorpe.

Ged Nichols, general secretary of the trade union Accord, said in a statement that the announcement of the job cuts is a significant blow to a number of individuals.

"Today's confirmation that Lloyds Banking Group (LBG) is to shed nearly 1,000 more jobs on top of the 30,000 that have been lost since the Halifax Bank of Scotland Group was taken over just three years ago is devastating news for the employees who will be affected and the communities in which they live," he said. "Newcastle, Romford and Scunthorpe are areas that cannot afford to lose the high-quality jobs that will go as a result of today's announcement."

The Mirror reports a Lloyds spokesman said the company was hoping to find alternative jobs for those being laid off, adding that such job cuts are a "last resort."
