What should the owner's tasks and responsibilities be?

Irv Williamson's Profile

My client is a family business. The CEO's wife had been the functional controller / CFO for 13 years. She now wants to move out of the day to day responsibilities and function as an "owner".   She's not sure what an owner is supposed to do.

What should she now be responsible for?

I recommend either business development or product fulfillment. These are two areas that usually require an owner/exec manager focus. If done well the result is high customer satisfaction and increased sales. If the CEO handles one piece, the spouse should take the other.
