Why was it created?

A dearth of resources today

Proformative was founded by a long-time corporate finance and accounting professional, John Kogan. John worked his way from entry-level finance and accounting roles to being a four-time CFO. During his career he has been with companies large and small, public and private. From these tenures and by simply looking around, John realized that there are very few resources available to the professionals in these highly complex and technical positions and they consist mainly of a) friends or co-workers we can email (maybe they know the answer to your question) or b) paid resources such as audit partners, legal counsel and the like. Neither of those groups is likely to provide a variety of real-world feedback in a timely manner, for free, and it is entirely likely that they themselves won't have the answers. Then they will need to reach out to their networks and so on. It is highly inefficient and slow and at the end of the day it may net you a bill to pay and narrowly focused advice - if they could answer your question at all.

A wealth of resources on Proformative

That is why we created Proformative. Because we realize that our professional community is our best resource. Anyone who belongs to a community group knows that the community has an incredible range of experience and knowledge. The larger and more open the community and the easier its means of communicating, the greater its power. We created Proformative to be the world’s largest and most useful community of corporate finance and related professionals — so that we could bring our collective knowledge and experience to bear to answer virtually any question in finance and related realms rapidly, with a variety of viewpoints, and all simply and for free. We also wanted to surround our community with useful resources and have done this by creating sections of the Proformative site focused on "Experts", Jobs, Service Providers, and Tools/Resources. Along with the core Discussions area of the site, these pillars build an incredibly strong foundation for the Proformative community.

Our passion

Finally, we are passionate about what we do. Both co-founders John and Greg, and our entire team, deeply believe in the power of professional communities and have seen them do great things in other functional domains. We believe that we will make work, and therefore life, better for the finance, accounting, treasury and related community through this free and open resource. Thanks for joining us.
