Uncertainty in global financial markets is taking its toll on finance chiefs all over the world, with challenges ranging from lowering budgets to finding new growth markets.

In a recent interview with IDG News, Dan Rosenthal, the chief financial officer of cloud-based solutions provider Fonality, explained that access to capital was the main challenge facing those in his position today.

"For private companies, like Fonality, the entire venture capital market has changed over the past 10 years and the whole process is more difficult," Rosenthal explained. "Sure, there are the hype-driven 'successes' like some of the social media guys out there, but those are by far the exception rather than the rule."

In addition to access to capital, Rosenthal echoed the sentiments of recent Robert Half surveys by saying finding talent was another difficulty CFOs face in today's economy. With approximately 235 employees at Fonality, Rosenthal explains that the company can no longer be considered a startup, and needs to plan accordingly by recruiting new staff.

According to its website, Plano, Texas-based Fonality offers solutions for small, medium and large businesses.
