Integrated Reporting Met With Support From Global Community

Integrated reports are meeting with broad acceptance around the globe.

An organization tasked with creating a framework to integrate governance and financial reporting with social responsibility and sustainability issues says the idea is being met with broad support.

"Integrated Reporting brings together material information about an organization’s strategy, governance, performance and prospects in a way that reflects the commercial, social
and environmental context within which it operates," according to the International Integrated Reporting Council. "It provides a clear and concise representation of how an organization demonstrates stewardship and how it creates and sustains value."

Comments on the group's latest report have been coming in from around the world as accounting standards organizations chime in with their thoughts on the issue. According to, the Dutch Accounting Standards Board wants to ensure any new framework reduces the complexity of reports by creating a better understanding of the cause and effect relationships between measures such as financial performance and sustainability.

Integrated reporting would give investors a much broader idea of the ways in which an organization utilizes its resources to compete in the global marketplace. These types of reports could also help corporate heads make the best use of scarce resources.
