Many Companies Get Ball Rolling on Big Data

Many of those with executive jobs have begun using big data to help get ahead. Big data can comprise any type of large volume of information - consumer trends, medical records and environmental patterns, to name a few. In geneal, many corporations are starting to use the information as a means to give themselves a leg up on the competition by learning more about their customers and industry practices.

According to ZDNet, four big data surveys surveys were published by IBM, SAP, Jaspersoft and RainStor. All three found that corporations are very optimistic about the future use of the technology, though there are a few main worries. But the source said RainStor identified large costs as one of the main reasons some businesses are staying away from big data. The reports still suggested most companies are interested in the analytics process where the data is concerned.

The reports indicate there is enthusiasm for using big data, ZDNet noted, but many businesses have not yet prepared themselves and are starting off small.

Making the switch at some point, however, is a good idea, many industry experts believe. Computer Weekly explained that, despite the challenges of adopting the tools, big data has already been used by numerous firms to outperform other companies in the industry, such as retailers.
