MetroPCS CFO Predicts Likely Failure for Deal Between AT&T, T-Mobile USA

The chief financial officer of MetroPCS Communications Inc. said during a recent UBS AG event in New York that he believes AT&T's efforts to buy T-Mobile USA will likely prove unsuccessful, reports Bloomberg.

According to the news source, CFO J. Braxton Carter called potential scenarios to salvage the $39 billion deal "almost kind of moot at this point given the intense opposition by the government."

Bloomberg reports Carter's comments suggest the odds of the takeover being completed could be dwindling from a lack of confidence, particularly considering AT&T had initially approached MetroPCS to assist with the deal.

Carter added that it is likely time for the two companies to move onto a "plan B," according to the news source.

Carter's comments come as John Stephens, senior executive vice president and CFO of AT&T, said recently that the company is expecting to break its single-quarter smartphone sales record this quarter, according to a release.
