The chief financial officer of Sesame Communications, a Seattle-based cloud connection systems provider for the dental industry, told IDG News in a recent interview that he looks to hire candidates who demonstrate themselves to be "team players."

In the interview, CFO Jon Engman, whose company employs 85 workers, said that he is actually biased towards professionals who were previously part of athletic teams. This, Engman says, assures him that the applicant has experience working with others towards a common goal.

Additionally, Engman noted some of his typical interview questions reflect this emphasis on "team player" qualities, as he often inquires as to how the candidates' co-workers or friends would describe them.

"In terms of 'red flags,' I'm really looking for the kind of answers that would indicate that they won't be a team player or won't be willing to 'roll up their sleeves,' since early- to middle-stage companies often require an individual to work long hours and venture outside their stated job description," Engman said.

Engman's comments on his hiring strategies come as Sesame Communications recently partnered with the Washington State Dental Association (WSDA) to offer online consultations for members of the WSDA, according to a release.
