Sprint CFO Hints at Possibility of LTE iPhones in Future

Sprint's financial chief tiptoed around the potential creation of a 4G LTE iPhone in the future, the latest indication that the next version will come complete with a fast wireless connection, CNET News reported.

According to the news outlet, Sprint CFO Joe Euteneuer did not say that the device was coming, but he did note that the company has an agreement with Apple that is similar to that of AT&T and Verizon Wireless.

Dow Jones reported that the carrier plans to introduce the 4G LTE network in only six cities by midyear, but the expansion of this service could occur as the company moves forward with the introduction of the high-speed wireless network.

"If you make the assumption that they launch a device at a similar time that they did last year, you're basically done with the major markets" on Sprint's 4G LTE buildout, said the CFO. He noted that the carrier plans to initially cover roughly 100 million Americans. "So I don't think we are really disadvantaged at all."

The launch of the phone would help the company compete with Verizon and AT&T and could stop the loss of customers that occurred last quarter, according to Dow Jones.
