Survey: Global CFOs Optimistic About Expansion Plans

Surveys of chief executive and chief financial officers tend to vary month to month, but one positive sign that has held true for some time now is that CFOs around the world are confident in their companies' ability to expand.

According to the annual BDO Global Ambition Survey of CFOs conducted by Strategy One, nearly every responding finance chief (95 percent) from 13 different countries emphasized that they remain confident in their plans to expand globally, even in the face of the still-struggling economy.

While it may come as a surprise that 69 percent of responding CFOs said they have not had any issues acquiring the funds to expand internationally, the shortage in workers with the necessary skills to facilitate such expansions remains the major challenge, the survey found.

"[CFOs] recognize the importance of conducting proper research, seeking good, solid advice and, above all, of having talented, local people on the ground," BDO CEO Martin van Roeckel said in a release.

Still, even with many finance chiefs lamenting the lack of qualified individuals, 71 percent of companies surveyed in the recent Duke University and CFO Magazine quarterly survey said they have followed through on their hiring plans for this year, according to Dow Jones Newswires.
