In the workplace, portability, cost-efficiency and ease of use are among the qualities that all employees look for in technology, whether they're holding entry-level positions or executive jobs. Today, these same reasons are being cited by IT administrators welcoming tablets into the office for the first time. These devices have now evolved to become much more than a luxury gadget meant to appease a few upper-level managers, in fact, there are a number of notable business advantages that can be extended to all levels of the workforce.

1.) Remote access to work materials

Perhaps the most obvious benefits to tablet use is the fact that its size and wireless setup makes it one of the most mobile tools a business person can use. Tablets are the perfect travel companion for business professionals -enabling employees to work from the road and make a more efficient.

A 2010 survey published by ChangeWave found that 67 percent of business people use tablets to enable work to be done away from the office.

2.) Battery life

A Fusion Alliance blog reported batteries in tablets will often last longer than those in laptops, which have been a business mainstay for years. This could prevent shortages when notes are being taken at a meetings or other important operations are being performed. If a laptop shorts out, there is not always a guarantee work was saved.

3.) Touch screen

According to TecRux, the touch screens offered by tablets could help eliminate a lot of time and frustrations that can be caused by use of the traditional keyboards that accompany laptop and desktop computers. Specifically, keyboard positions would not have to be constantly adjusted for comfort purposes and time would not be wasted dealing with stuck keys.

4.) Wireless

The wireless nature of the devices allow for better mobility and can facilitate quick use on the run. Tablet users can just grab the tool when running to a last-minute business gathering without having to deal with disconnecting chords and finding outlets in a meeting room.

The lack of wires could also contribute to a less cluttered workspace, TecRux noted. The capabilities of most tablets allow for wireless communications with printers, fax machines and other business tools.

5.) Applications

Applications used by other business tools including smartphones can also often be used by tablet owners. Traditional business software providers have already gotten in on the trend and developed tablet apps for nearly any business function. Some companies are also creating their own application stores to fulfill unique employee requests and reduce security concerns.

Most application stores have cost-effective tools that can be downloaded to the benefit of nearly any industry, Wireless Zone reported, such as word processing programs, file readers, credit card readers and photoshop systems, among others.
