Volkswagen CFO: Automaker Still Planning Merger with Porsche

While the chief executive officer has been known for many years as the strategical thinker behind the company's operations, the recent case of automaker Volkswagen AG's plans to merge with Porsche Automobil Holding SE suggest that the CFO is becoming more involved.

According to Down Jones Newswires, Volkswagen AG CFO Hans-Dieter Poetsch confirmed recently that the company is still looking to take over the Porsche unit, but is also considering potential alternatives due to financial risks.

The news source reports that Poetsch preached patience to reporters, as the automaker weighs the potential financial risks stemming from allegations of market manipulation against Porsche in the U.S. and Germany.

While these risks are certainly specific to the potential merger of Porsche and Volkswagen, they are also representative of the decisions that need to be made by finance chiefs in all sectors due to the continually struggling global economy.

Volkswagen is also dealing with a recent recall of certain 2011 and 2012 Jetta vehicles over exhaust pipes that could potentially cause burns, according to The Wall Street Journal.
