CFO Dimensions 2013 | Panel Discussion - John Percival, Adjunct Professor of Finance, Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, leads a thought-provoking panel discussion among Senior Finance Executives around the evolving role of the CFO. They highlight and discuss the challenges facing CFO's from; leading a team, communicating with Executive Management/Board Members, and forecasting/planning the changing landscape of business. These challenges are opportunities for the CFO to elevate the their insights, knowledge and clout within an organization of any size, when managed and approached effectively. In this panel we hear from practitioners as well as key stakeholders of the CFO organization, to better understand the requirements and skills needed to take advantage of these changing times as a CFO and evolve into the Strategic Partner of choice. Dr. John Percival has been at Wharton since 1971. He has previously held the positions of Assistant Professor, and Associate Director and Associate Vice Dean of the MBA Program. He has been very active in developing and teaching in executive education programs at Wharton, Penn State, Carnegie-Mellon, Columbia, University of Minnesota, University of Illinois, and many others across the globe. He has developed programs for GE, Marathon, Pitney Bowes, IBM, Continental Tire, Chubb, Hartford, Genworth, Sun Life, Vulcan Materials, McCormick, Johnson and Johnson, Ford, Progressive, Alfa Insurance and many other companies. He has consulted to organizations in both the public and private sectors, including the Federal Trade Commission, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, U. S. Department of Labor, AT&T, Ford, DuPont, Price Waterhouse and many others.

Tom FitzSimmons is TMP’s Chief Financial Officer, a role he has held since 2010. Responsible for global financial operations and business systems, including accounting, budgeting and planning, reporting and treasury functions, he focuses on TMP’s pursuit of industry leadership, innovation and evolution. As a boomerang employee, Thomas returned after an eight year hiatus. During that time he gained valuable experience as the CFO for INVISION, Inc., where he was responsible for finance and operations and also led the successful sale of their business and their subsequent investment rounds. From 2002-07, he was the CFO for WebRecruiter, LLC. Here, he managed the finance, sales, account services and operations teams. Before his departure, he was with TMP for eight years holding various roles including Senior Vice President overseeing HR, facilities, systems and Divisional CFO. Thomas has a B.S. degree in from Iona College and has attended Columbia University.

Cheryl Marks Young is Easter Seals New Jersey’s Chief Financial Officer, ensuring that the Agency’s resources are properly allocated to achieve the long-term strategic goals of the organization. Cheryl Marks Young has served as Chief Financial Officer of Easter Seals New Jersey since 2006. Prior to that time, she held financial leadership positions with Sesame Workshop and Viacom. Cheryl has a bachelor of science in accounting from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University, and has received a certificate in professional grant development and a certification in process improvement from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, and a certificate in treasury management from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Cheryl is participating in the 2013 National Council on Behavioral Healthcare's Executive Leadership Program. She also currently serves as a Board Member and Co-Chair for the CFO Committee of the New Jersey Association of Mental Health and Addictions Agencies (NJAMHAA), and as a Board Member for the New Jersey Association of Community Providers. In 2012, Cheryl was announced as a Finalist in the NJBIZ CFO of the Year awards program and she was presented with an award for Outstanding Leadership in Advocacy on Fiscal Issues by NJAMHAA.
