Classic enterprise software. It's got all the modules, and of course is super robust. Also the opposite of user-friendly. It's a pain to install, pain to upgrade, painful learning curve, pain to get data out. Requires a separate data warehouse / business intelligence system to make any use of the data. For some companies, only Oracle will be robust enough. But use it as a last resort (as opposed to something like NetSuite).

What I liked most
Can handle anything, including massive data sets, global consolidations and users etc. We just switched to Oracle on Demand, where Oracle hosts it.

What I liked least:
The user interface is literally from the 1980's (Oracle Forms). Expensive to upgrade, get customized reports etc. Requires dedicated Application IT staff.

Suffered through a never ending implementation of Oracle Software. Finally after two weeks of being live we gave up and switched platforms. $5 million down the drain. The issues we ran up against were primarily two fold. First the equipment leasing and tracking portion of the sofwtare was not adequate to handle the hundred thousand or so pieces of equipment we had in the field, Secondly the shipment fulfillment module was cumbersome for order entry and warehousing to handle. Was Oracle to blame? Was our installation partner to blame? Were we to blame? Yes, all of the above, but Oracle never again in my lifetime. Of five major installations I have been closely involved in this was the only one to fail and the only one to rely on Oracle.

To be honest, Oracle 11i is the only accounting software I've ever used in a Corporate setting. However, based on many conversations with other professionals, it seems to be the best ERP system, especially for accounting professionals. It is user friendly and gets the job done. There are a few quirks I'm hoping to see fixed in our next upgrade. For instance, entering historical currency rates or generating multiple allocations are tedious processes. Also, publishing reports is time consuming during our closing process. We will be upgrading to the newer software this year. Fingers crossed that the next generation Oracle has to offer is a vast improvement.
