User friendly but horrible reporting module. It is not designed for hundreds of monthly transactions. Security setting are all or none. Why is it difficult to close periods but let a user edit non-financial information? This requirement requires me to edit simple, non-material information.

Our company switched from Online QuickBooks to QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions. The implementation was smooth. It is excellent for tracking detailed sales items and reporting those items on a detailed basis. It is also easy to do bank reconciliations. I would recommend this!

I have used QuickBooks Enterprise at 2 food manufacturing companies where I was CFO. It fit our needs very well for accounting, procurement and payroll (using Intuit Payroll.) Currently we use it in the cloud on a server users can access whenever they have internet access. We locked down user access and transaction control to provide us with adequate control over the environment. One of the biggest benefits is the large number of candidates who have used QuickBooks, reducing the learning curve.

We used third party solutions for production planning and inventory management, both integrated with QuickBooks, to meet our business needs.

Multiple users allowed to access program. User defined access to various areas of the accounting function. Inventory tracking. Purchase orders and sales contracts available. Customized invoices that can be emailed and paid online by customers. Good for medium sized business.

We have been growing over the last 10 years from $1 million to over $10 million with the QuickBooks Software. Yes there is a problem with the inventory module and the fixed asset module but other than that it is simple & good. Job costing is a breeze. The job costing reports are easy to read & easy to produce. The payroll module is easy, effective & cheap. For the price it is the best on the market.

Quickbooks is very easy to use and understandable. The contributed reporting feature allows users to create custom reports and save them for others to use. I have used Quickbooks for a small construction company, a company with divisions in multiple states using consolidation features and currently a retail environment with eleven locations. The intuit website provides a great troubleshooting resource. There are a couple of cons: the bank reconciliation feature doesn't allow you to check off multiple rows at once (e.g. pay checks direct deposited). Currently doesn't allow you to export to PDF; however there is an option to submit feedback in the software; so hopefully these changes will come with a later version.

The nice thing about QuickBooks is that it is fairly simple. The bad thing about QuickBooks is that it is fairly simple. For start-up and small companies it is great. As you need more sophisticated audit trails, reporting, transactions that cannot be changed easily, one needs to move to another system. Although QB reports download nicely into Excel, I have not found away to download columnar raw data that can be easily pivot tabled in Excel. The canned financial reports need a little more flexibility in the selection and formatting of data. Many clients have more than one entity and set these up separately on QB; they cannot be consolidated. However, one can accomplish by setting up the entities in the one chart of accounts; but this takes more sophistication than most QB users have. The uploading of entries is a nice and easily workable feature and it can help if you have a lot of intercompany entries. No automatic intercompany. Like the bank account reconciliation feature. It actually has some control features and can be used with many balance sheet accounts: Loan payables, credit card, gift cards, inventory etc. Another lament is that it is too easy to set up new accounts both general ledger and vendor. A typo sets up a new account, especially in the import process.Hopefully, I increase the awareness that the more you need answers from QuickBooks the less of a workable system it is.

What I liked most: Very easy to learn; use and train new employees on; relatively easy and flexible reporting What I liked least: Very limited and unreliable audit trail; transactions in closed periods can be modified without leaving a trace. It would need considerable compensating controls to qualify for 404 control standards Application: Used G/L, A/P, and A/R; no inventory/mfg./product costing; $25-50M annual revenue; 100-150 revenue transactions/mo.; 100 expense entries actions/mo.; 5 users QB Enterprise is a basic accounting application. It produces the usual financial statements as well as budget to actual operational reporting, with some creativity, it can be used to consolidate non-USD reporting entities. As with most non-SAAS applications, upgrades/new editions were not always completely painless .

Assuming they have reached the $3-4M in revenue per year threshold, I would strongly suggest they try something else such as SysPro, Netsuite even Mfg Pro would be significantly better at that level of revenue.

RE Rating: That's misleading, I think quickbooks has potential benefit to organizations operating less than $3-4M revenue/year range. I do not believe quickbooks has any value whatsoever in a manufacturing environment, there is far too much work around needed and considering the significant investment these companies make in inventory (the #2 asset just behind cash), they cannot afford to mismanage the process.

RE Implementation:As the organization grew, we constantly had to re-imagine QuickBooks (i.e., contrive new ways to create a performance that was never there in the first place). Although not an implementation per se, it did require significant retooling and in several cases significant upgrades to completely different products within the qb product line.

What I liked most
Extremely easy to use & data conversion is wonderful when upgrading to a better platform ERP system.

What I liked least:
I don't have four hours of my life I am willing to dedicate to this question; I'll never get it back. I realize there are several people out there that will disagree, I ask that my criteria is specifically noted to avoid a discussion that spirals out of control. Everyone else who disagrees is probably too frightened to try something new or has never had to use the system in the first place.
