I have a small LLC that has several business ventures under it. I liked the QB desktop version for the ability to use classes to separate this activity for reporting purposes. However, my partner wanted to be able to see the financials as well, so we converted to the online version.

We had nothing but problems. Initially there were several issues converting the desktop data to online, which took some amount of manual time to fix. Once uploaded and the free trial ended, I thought we signed up for more functionality than we needed. I called to downgrade and was told I couldn't. I would have to download my data, create a new account, and re-upload. This was fraught with technical issues and several calls/hours on the phone. When I realized the more reasonable plan (from a financial point of view) did not allow me to use the class function, I decided to quit the online version altogether. It took several calls to get my refund.

This is a shady operation with significant technical issue. There are many other players out there. I would definitely stay away.

I was looking for a possible new accounting system. I didn’t know whether I wanted to continue using a local/LAN based program or a Cloud based one. While I could always use some sort of PC based terminal session software to access a local/Lan system, which increases my security issues and overhead.

My accounting issues are rather simple, so I don’t need a powerhouse like a Microsoft product or a SAP, so I look at several smaller type systems. Quickbooks Online was one such system.

It was slow. It was clunky. It was difficult to re-create a Chart of Accounts that did what I needed. Speed, ease of use and mold-ability (customizing within the program from its stock options) are necessary standards in any system, and I just didn’t find that to be the case with this product.

I think in their rush to the market, they missed the boat.
