I cannot believe they get away with their tactics. There are plenty of laws that protect the consumer but what about us business owners? There is no way Experian would be able to get away with what they get away with. My problem is serious. They are preventing me from being able to get a performance bond for my company. This is all due to a credit filing they have on my account for an old company we had that is no longer in business. The lien is not against the owner nor our current company. I thought that is what D&B, Socials and Fed ID's were for? So even though my husband owns this current company he is being penalized for something that happened in another company he co-owned. The first thing you need to do is remain calm. You are bumping up against the corporate brick wall and screaming at it doesn't help the situation. My advice would be to delete this thread with the word extortion in the headline. We are living in the digital age where things tend to linger.
The correct word for what is happening might be mis-representation. Get in touch with the bonding company and politely explain that this is just improper documentation and it is in the process of getting straightened up so they will hang out until you get back with them.Freaking out on them definitely won't help.
Your husband was involved in some sort of situation that seems to not have ended smoothly. There are ways to properly extricate oneself from these things which usually involve having forms filled out and filed with different agencies. Unfortunately from the sound of it, this didn't happen. This is a big mistake that small business owners make, not properly unwinding an old business.
UCC filings are tricky so usually best handled by a good attorney who is well versed in Article 9 law. It's a tangled mess and it has to be untangled.
Stay Calm
Good luck
I have had issues with D&B and being able to reach someone who is willing to assist is virtually impossible. My situations have not been anywhere near as detrimental as the one described in this post, but I do agree with the premise and that is that D&B is virtually impossible to deal with, and unlike consumer credit reports, can keep secret the reporting company, even if the information is incorrect.
