As a human services agency most of our revenues are derived from providing social services which we have to seek reimbursement from federal, state, and local government. All require backup copies of all invoices and bills for any charge allocated or billed to the grant. Our accounting department is small and is overwhelmed with paper and the process for compiling the billing packages is time consuming. then there is quite a bit time spent ensuring that all bills have been attached and checking to ensure that the underlying bills add up to the summary report that is presented for reimbursement. Process is very time consuming and inefficient.
Can anyone recommend accounting system or billing software to automate the preparation of grant expenditure reports?

Two thoughts:
1. Talk to similar agencies-what are they doing?
2. Goto www.g2crowd.com and look for reviews on Grant Accounting.
And think about how you can scan/digitize all related documents to make it easier to compile the billing package.
We have a complex billing process and recently implemented Ordway. They handle the most complex billing models, then automate the process based on how you configure it. It basically handles the order to cash process, so it sound like it might work for you. Not sure they focus on grant billing specifically, but given the tremendous amount of flexibility and configurability, I'm sure it could solve for what you need, especially since is solved our need (given how complex our pricing is).
