Suggest you join the FENG as you are a senior financial executive.

Best of luck to you.

Are you a memeber of the FEI? Resume writing seems to be running in the $700 range when I was looking a few months ago. I decided to use my network instead, so it only cost me a few beers and a dinner. As a CFO I am sure you have smart people you know who would only be too happy to help. Make sure your LinkedIn profile is up to date- take a class on that as well to maximize your exposure.

LinkedIn data mines and is full of risks on many levels, the same as all the other "social networks". They aren't doing this for free you know!

I agree that FENG and FEI are great places to network and stay abreast of the latest. And Dana is spot on! You probably already know several people that you can tap into for direction/help/resources.

I would also suggest talking to some local executive recruiters. They're always looking for qualified execs, are well connected, will critique your resume/profile during your discussions (take notes), and have resume/job hunting resources they're usually very happy to share (upon request.)

A couple of thoughts.

First, just ask people in your network to share their resume - especially people who hold jobs similar to what you are seeking. This will give you a sense of content.

Second, I agree with Mike - ask recruiters you know for some examples of good resumes. Ask them why it's so good.

Third, you need to write your resume for both people and the database. See the blog post below for the database.

Fourth, use Proformative to improve your resume - see post below.

Fifth, you the skills you use daily to make your pitch and resume effective - see below.

Hope this helps

I agree about the suggestions for the FENG, however please note that you need somebody to sponsor you. When I joined it was two members not sure if it's the same now.

Good luck.

Outplacement firms are another source.

I do agree with all the comments seen so far and would like to emphasize the need to create your own resume in terms of the content. No other person will be able to spell out your achievements as you can. Having said that, after you have your contents I would suggest you have a professional firm (e.g do the presentation and formatting (which can be time consuming) for very little.

Good luck.

Try your local Human Resource Association. They are experts at reading resumes and I'm sure they will have a member that would be willing to help you at no cost. You can find your local chapter by going to and searching for the chapter in your area.
