My CPA friends who wanted to make the switch; yes, it helped. Primarily it was in getting them seen a having a much broader skill-set, or potentially broader interests.

Note that MBAs come in many flavors, both "general management" and more specialized roles like marketing and finance.

I personally have seen quite a bit of ebb and flow; I know CPAs who leave that designation off their resume entirely when looking at non-traditional roles. More recently the designation seems to have gotten an appreciation beyond the accounting realm, perhaps indicating that the incremental value of the MBA is reduced? I'm sure this is a case-by-case thing.

Last note, the CPA designation is (generalizing) technical, while the MBA is managerial. They are very different skill sets, both relevant in a CFO role, and therefore are generally additive.

Even more than the piece of paper, the knowledge will help you be successful. If nothing else, it will make you more aware of when you need to consult a specialist!

I have both. They complement each other nicely. But on a different note, Ali, I recommend you work on your writing and presentation skills. I am trying to be constructive with that, not cruel. Not being articulate and well-spoken can hold you back.

I've heard MBA is helpful if you can get it from a well known Business School. Otherwise, not so much!

I have seen this getting more traction these days! As CFO is also Chief Future Officer due to the demands of today's international businesses. But it is no guarantee all MBA graduates have what it takes as it is easy to pass but many do not know how to apply. It does gets you to the interview room if you have enough experience to back your application.

Thank you everyone for clearing my doubt, and a special thanks to the anonymous person for the note... I'll work on that.
