ERISA Compliance

We have a new HR person that is having to take over all benefits compliance. Does anyone have a good reference site or source that will help this person help them make sure all compliance issues are covered? There just seems to be many situations where this person doesn't know all of the deadlines.

I suggest they join SHRM, a nation HR organization which has a call in hot line number for questions and concerns, a website with a wide range of information and whitepapers. There are also local HR organizations to network with.

My advice is to hire an ERISA 3(16) Plan Administrator or an Independent Fiduciary to help the HR person and your Board of Directors/Owners mitigate their fiduciary responsibilities.

The following website is a good start and will at least help identify the filing requirements and dates. You will want to consider getting good consulting advice as needed, depending on your benefits components. Please note that Form 5500 filings are jointly governed by DOL and IRS rules. This topic can become complicated quicly.
