Has anyone been thru an IDES (Illinois Dept of Employment Security) audit? Plan to have documentation ready (per the checklist) but if you have any advice, would be greatly appreciated!!

I have had this opportunity. The IDES objective is simple - receipt maximization. Assuming taxes have been remitted accurately and timely, their questions may focus on 1099 vendors, particularly individuals, if any..."service provider classification"...to look for persons deemed "employes" and thus whose payments are deemed subject to the tax. Your worker's comp carrier has the same interest, plus employee risk category classification. the IDES may raise some issues for temporaries from staffing firms or "leased employees" firms, unless those firms pay the tax.
