We are in the process of implementing Performance Boards in the Decision Support & Reporting Department to document, track and drive performance. What other KPI for reporting department (finance but not AP or AR related) ? Decision Support & Reporting: we have a lot of ADHOC requests that come in from various areas of the hospital, we have people that write SQL reports, financial analysts, clinical data/staff and forecasting for the entire hospital.
Hospitals - KPIs for the Decision Support & Reporting Department
Answers
My .02 cents.
I think most postings requesting/asking for specific KPIs as they establish the process have the process/perspective backwards.
1. Determine success parameters/definition.
2. Determine success drivers.
3. Establish the KPIs that measure said drivers.
4. Make sure that the data/information needed to pull out the KPIs are captured,
5. Compute/Report the KPIs
6. Evaluate....Rinse...Repeat.
One of the main purpose of KPIs is to measure/evaluate whether initiatives are working towards a goal....therefore, determining success parameters/definition and their drivers is key and should be determined AHEAD of whatever KPIs there is. Else, you are working backwards (it will not reflect the real or tangible/measureable goal) or worse, the KPIs will be worthless.
This perspective is NOT industry specific and can be applied to ANY industry.
