New Hire Portal

I was reading another post: What's On Your Employee Onboarding Checklist? and wanted to add a new discussion around portals or cost effective systems that can assist employers to manage the process. Specifically, our issue lies around we have the New Hire Packet. The entire packet is supposed to be scanned to our HR person who then has multiple platforms to enter one person, so they can be set up on medical, dental, our internal programs, etc. She has around 15 steps to actually input a new hire. Then there's the issue of the "completed packet" - it's never complete so then there's follow up trying to get all the necessary paperwork so they can be paid or even added to benefits. Just curious how others manager this process from an internal perspective.
