If you ever end up trying to put in an ERP type of system, we found Oracle to be good at managing this. We had a firm of 1,100 professionals.

Acumatica is good for professional services firms. Look at its 'Project Accounting' suite. It is geared for SMB's and scales well, so over 100 professionals is no problem.

Another is Office Tools Professional (aka "OTP"). It is still not in the cloud, but is reasonably robust and easy to use.

Thanks for the suggestions folks! Although we are a law firm, I want to look at non-legal solutions; engineers, accountants, other professionals ... we all have the same challenges.
