Ransomeware - are you prepared, would you pay?

An interesting article on the FEI website: "Protecting Your Data and Networks From Ransomware" http://daily.financialexecutives.org/protecting-data-networks-ransomware/

So, are you prepared to either prevent the hacker or mitigate?

Or are you just willing to wing it?

BTW, have you actually tried to restore your data from your backups????

I worked for a company where a virus began to encrypt our cloud based finance network drive. The IT department was able to intercept and stop the progress of it fairly quickly (within an hour or two) and was able to restore the backups a couple of hours later. It would have been a real headache if we did not have viable backups as all our calculation worksheets, audit files and AP and AR files could have been lost.
