We pay a "referral bonus" to our associates. If they refer a friend or customer and they obtain employment with us the associate will receive $100. We try to emphasize our benefits package but it's tough. The market is pretty saturated with resumes and we have seen a spike in turnover. It seems a lot of the candidates we hire - decide after a short period of time that the job isn't what they wanted; which is bizarre. I'd be interested to see other comments as well.

Here's a radical idea: actually make the effort to create a culture that respects and values the individual employee. Then people don't quit for perplexing reasons after getting a small taste. Not an easy task inasmuch as it involves mindset from all levels of management but the payback is huge.

We did just that Matthew. Ever want to learn how to change your culture read the book The Pursuit of Something Better. It is a book written about US Cellular's CEO Jack Rooney, who radically changed the culture at US Cellular, after reading the book we adopted many of their ideas (since we sell their product) and I can speak first hand it is well worth it. Follow that up with the book The Advantage and you're sure to create the best environment all every level of the company.
