I was presenting at a CPA technology conference last week and during some other sessions, Sage 50 came up. The faces wrinkled up instantly and uniformly across the room.

That doesn't sound good. There were no reasons given for the discomfort with the Sage 50?

We have Sage 50 Quantum in a manufacturing company. Used for over 6-years, utilizing perhaps 80% of functionality. Enterprise application for Inventory, purchasing, assemblies, sales-orders, customer invoices, AR, AP, full GL. Decent reporting, they suggest third-party BI options for more intense reporting needs. Possible move up to Sage 100 at some time in the future.

Depends on your size, number of employees, industry. Far better than QB.

We currently use Sage 50 for smaller entities in various industries. I agree that it is better than QB. Flexible, ease of reporting, ability to customize, export to PDF and Excel.

There are ERP that have modules that provide great functionality, but the cost does not compare.

Sage 50 is basically a good tool for accounting-savvy users, particularly if the business, they deal in, requires sophisticated inventory management. It is an ideal choice for small businesses who don’t want to purchase different accounting modules separately, it groups together all in one single dashboard.

However, it can be intimidating for newcomers.

No, Alan. It wasn't part of the discussion - even the presenter moved past it quickly onto other packages. What I observed was just an audience reaction.

I don't know anything about it, myself.

We use Oracle for our main business but Sage 50 for a small side business. I suppose it is better than Quickbooks Pro but I am not sure about Quickbooks Enterprise. It would have to be for a very, very small business though.
