Sales Tax Errors Statute Of Limitations

"How many years are available to correct sales tax errors if you make them? Is there a statute of limitations or the like?"

This question was asked at a recent webinar, now available on-demand:

"How to Prepare for your Next Sales Tax Exemption Certificate Audit"

Please add your thoughts about it below. Thanks!

Silvia Aguirre, Chief Certificate Officer, Avalara Certcapture and Matt MacNeil, Director of Solutions Engineering, Avalara CertCapture responded:

"Most states will only go back 4 years. This number can be extended all the way back to the start of sales within a state if the auditor finds large discrepancies. ."

The statute of limitations is 3 to 5 years depending on the State.
