Should I be charging sales tax?

Member's Profile

Hello,
I have a cleaning company, I work for several real estate agents as a sub-contractor, they send a 1099 for the amount of money that they've paid me throughout the year.
I have a new agent that I'm starting to work for, I sent her an invoice for a days work, she replied that I need to charge her sales tax on the work that that I did. (Although she will 1099 me on same work), is she correct by asking me to pay sales tax? This is the only time I've been asked to do so.

It depends! What state you are in and the types of clients you have will impact the requirement.
