Switching gears... accounting staff temps

Do you use them? When (what time of year)? Why (activity)? And where do you find them? Do you ever hire them full-time? And finally, what has been your overall experience?

I have yet to need a temp myself, but from my work experience Accountemps is one of the best. They have everything from admin to accounting managers. I personally have worked for them and got hired on full-time at the place I was placed.

We used a temp service a couple of times two years ago. One of our positions was growing beyond what the person's ability and time could do. Much of it was busy, clerical work (making copies, filing, getting signatures on documents, etc.). During that season of growth we used the temp service to ease the burden on the department.

It did work out well overall, there were a couple of people we requested not come back for the duration of the contract. The firm helped to place someone else with us that was better able to fill the needs.

Where I am now, we haven't hired a temp to full-time. At my last company they did start with some temp employees that were hired after a probationary period.

We've used Accountemps and Accounting Principals.
