Temporary CFO Agencies

Dear colleagues:

Can someone refer a good temp agency or recruiter in NY metro/NJ/CT specialized in accounting/finance? I am seeking a temp assignment as CFO or Controller. During the past few months, have visited website of so called "popular" agencies, however most of positions listed were low paying positions. Any referral or suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm on the west coast so I can't offer any specifics. However your regional CPA firms might have divisions that provide consulting or staffing services to their large clients. I'd check out some out their websites and see then try to talk to someone in those divisons. It might take a little more reserach on your part, but will probably be a better fit than the lower end accounting positions.

Google temporary cfo in new york and contact the leaders in your area. However, this is hit or miss. If there is no demand do not expect a return call or email. Spread out and contact the cpa firms in your area, they may have a client with a need. Also, contact local banks/financial institutions who may know of a need. There is no single answer. Be creative and invest your time in reaching all possibilites.

Demand in the marketplace is sketchy. I am not a fan of the Recruiting industry and true Temp Agencies are just that.

There are alternatives; most more honest; but anyone who promises guarantees work is lying.

Please contact me off-line.

An example of the problems with Anonymous questions (as I dont' want to make this a sales pitch, but have no one to send a private message too).

Tatum CFO has nationwide coverage and you might see if they need someone on the East Coast.

My understanding of the economics is that the outsourcing firms take a vig off the top (like 30%) which makes them seem very un-competitive, and they tend to be for more generic roles. Networking has worked very well for me, and the yield is reasonable. I've also seen slots from retained search firms on occasion, and those have seemed a little better (but remember they do get their fees).

Rather than signing up with a temporary agency for a CFO position, is it a more viable business option to become a consultant and market yourself as CFO or a financial consultant of some sorts? Starting out might be difficult unless you have an impressive resume and work history. What have you other Consultant CFO folks done to build your private business?
