Q&A Forum

Are there any benchmarks for total compensation (base + variable + benefits) as a percentage of sales? Ideally looking for medical device analytics. Thank you.

To get a reliable benchmark, a few more inputs would be helpful: Is this an executive (director/VP/C-suite or above) or is it individual contributor / below director? Also what geography? You can get some free benchmark as a baseline on salaryexpert.com yet it will not be tailored to the criteria you have already mentioned. Executive position pay typically will correlate with revenue / sales. You may want to check out www.erieri.com Salary Assessor or Executive Assessor demo downloads. Hope this helps.

If your question is directed to executive compensation, I recently read a proxy statement, DEF 14A, that went into a pretty long discussion on exec comp and how they benchmark it. This particular company's comp committee retained Radford Consulting to review the long and short term incentives and recommend a list of peer companies to use as representative benchmarks.

It may be worth some time to look at your peers and see what disclosures they make about how they approach it. i don't advocate follow the crowd, but your peers may be the most likely place your talented people may go.
