Quickbooks - inexpensive and does a pretty good job. I recommend the web version vs. the single computer based version.

I agree. It's easy to use and the web version provides flexibility. Also, since Quickbooks is so popular, it's not too difficult to find help in the event you have some functionality questions.

Xero. Cloud-based, much better user interface, much newer than QuickBooks.

Using Quickbooks, but mainly due to past use and ease of use.

Intacct offers similar cloud-based functionality. If you use Salesforce, they've got out of the box integration as well.

QB Online and Xero are great choices for beginners especially paired with Bill.com for managing payables and document retention. Both are inexpensive. Xero does a better job for a person that uses debit and credit cards alot as it comes with automated reconciliation tools. Intacct is a powerful tool but more expensive. The key in the above is not whether the system does good debits and credits but rather which closely fits the business operations of the new organization. Plus, also consider your software exit strategy in terms of moving from any of the above to more complex software as Net Suite, Financial Force or SAP in 5-6 years.
