What HRIS Elements Should Finance Be Looking For?

We are considering an HRIS system for a small company. What HRIS elements should the finance group be looking for in a system? Any recommendations for a small company with limited budget for a system? Thank you for your insights.

We recently chose SumTotal Systems for our HRIS. From the sales team to the professional services team to the fact that the people and the product actually delivered what was promised during the RFP process, we have been a very happy customer. The system is very flexible, and has key features that you will not find in the "big boy" systems sold by the large enterprise software companies. We were so happy to have found this product. They beat out the big boys in features, flexibility and price! They have quality individuals on their team that have proven time and again their commitment to a positive customer experience. Fast turnaround and personal service for a small company is what has made the difference for us especially when we compare the cost and how we were treated by the big boy software we used to use.

You should look for an integrated core HR for basic employee info, time-off, with links to payroll, and then any administrative intersections for time/pay and performance/compensation are key ones that typically have manual points that should be better automated.
