You have to love Stats....

In today's Accounting Today e-mail blast there are three articles (with a short summary) listed: Paychex Sees Small Businesses Cutting Back on Hiring by MICHAEL COHN Paychex reported Monday that the pace of small business hiring slowed down somewhat in August, continuing a trend in recent months. ADP Finds Private Sector Added 204,000 Jobs in August by MICHAEL COHN Private sector employers added 204,000 jobs in August, including 78,000 jobs at small businesses, according to payroll giant ADP, in a further indication of a strengthening economy. SurePayroll Sees Increase in Small Business Hiring in August by MICHAEL COHN Small businesses with one to 10 employees saw a month-over-month increase in hiring of one-tenth of a percent this month, according to the payroll provider SurePayroll. Ok, which is it. An increase or a decrease???? Also what do think is really happening.... Quote by Anonymous: Their are lies, damn lies and statistics; where 87.4% are fabricated.

Paychex article speaks of the pace of hiring which may still be positive (as indicated in articles 2 & 3) even though "less positive" month-to-month. The third article carves out such a small niche of the small business population by looking at the 1-10 employee market that gains in larger "small businesses" could easily dwarf them in the numbers.

Therein lies the beauty of statistics, there are almost always some real verifiable data that can support whatever inane claim you might want to make. Certainly the world of politics shows us that on a daily basis!
